And when we say Cancun we also include the other superb surrounding areas of interest, beauty and cultural significance.

Want to enjoy Cancun like a Local then have a look at some of these ideas we Love to do!
So Lets start off with the Hotel Zone
Strolling around the Plazas (shopping and entertainment malls) in the hotel Zone is a nice break and Plaza Las Isla is a favorite, With many shops, restaurants, Aquarium, Little rivers running through the open air plaza which is Lagoon side, and the views… (Amazing Sunsets to watch over a cold drink) this is a great family place to spend a couple of hours,
Museo Maya - This is a fascinating Museum that will transport you back and explain about the Mayan Culture and impact it had on the surrounding areas, full of ancient artifacts and depictions, beautiful jungle garden with Ruins, a genuine little treasure hidden away in the heart of the Hotel Zone.
Tequila Tasting - At the Factory La Destileria Restaurant, They even do classes to Learn the ancient art of making a TACOS! It is also a restaurant in case you just wanted to grab some great food.
El Mirador - This is a Famous point in Cancun that you pass when arriving from the Airport and has spectacular views of the sea, More than 7 different blues can be seen, a truly breathtaking sight and also a popular Public beach and you can have your photo taken at the Famous Cancun sign.
El Rey - This archeological site sits on the lagoon side further up the hotel Zone opposite the Famous El Mirador, although smaller than its famous counterparts like Chichen Itza and Tulum it does allow a short tour to see this beautiful site guarded by Hundreds of Iguanas.
Downtown Cancun
Parque Las Palapas - This is what we would class as the “Town Square” or Plaza of Cancun and is situated just off Avenida Tulum. This area is where most evenings, locals congregate in families with friends to unwind and relax.
Book fairs, local arts and crafts, live music performances, local shows. A favorite place to while a way an hour or so in the early evening, take in some delicious local street food - Tacos, Esquites, Platano frito, and basically people watch.
Ruta Nader - This is a road in downtown Cancun that at night offers some of the best Restaurants, A new project to revitalize the area which is becoming known for Art and modern fusion food. A real Community project that shows what an amazing City Cancun is and what we have to offer.
Isla Blanca - Not an Island but actually a Peninsular, This is a Virgin as Cancun gets, with little development compared to the Hotel Zone, and is a secret favorite of locals who take the drive to this paradise, Kite Surfers who travel from all over the world just for the amazing shallow salt water Lagoon on one side and the Sea on the other. There are only a couple of Restaurants scattered along the way not five stars but great eats and atmosphere (on the beach and plastic chairs , there is an annual Kite show event that has become very popular and this little secret of Cancun is well worth a visit .
Puerta Cancun Marina - A Newly built Shopping Mall Experience high end shopping and modern Resturante options and dining experiences - A favorite for locals and the food district upstairs offers many many food options from Traditional Mexican, to Vietnamese, Spanish Tapas, A very Modern feel, drinks served to your table while you order from any restaurant , food vender you want while watching the view over the water.
Ferry to Isla Mujeres - This is one of our favorite things to do, Isla Mujeres is the little island visible from the hotel zone on the Sea side - We recommend taking one of the ferry that run every 25 minutes from Puerto Juarez port in the Downtown. the ferry ride itself is a beautiful experience, make sure you sit up top and take in the views! usually live music is played for the short trip and tips are appreciated. Arrival to the island can be a bit crazy with many people selling snorkeling tours, rentals and Golf carts. Thats right the main source of transport is renting a golf cart and exploring the island by yourself (It is only 7km long and 0.65 km wide.) you will need a valid driving license and Identification and a whole day (6 hours, costs around 40 usd depending on the season) this island is brilliant, There are beautiful beaches (North beach being the winner of many awards) every weekend boats anchor up, you can walk out into the water for hundreds of meters and it stays waist deep. Restaurants, beach bars, punta sur with its Spectacular views, Garrifon park, theTurtle sanctuary, Artist fairs, off the beaten track bars, local sellers on the road side offering shells, drinks, pretty much anything. A well worth day trip if you decide to go. Always respect the laws of driving golf carts, no drinking and driving and respecting signs is our advice.
Further South - These require a bit more traveling. Taxis, The local Bus Company ADO offers very cheap yet comfortable and safe transportation from Cancun, stops off Puerto Morelos, downtown to the Centre of Playa Del Carmen and Tulum - Easy and worth while
Puerto Morelos - A quaint fishing village that although Popular with Tourists still manages to retain it’s local unspoiled feel, Fantastic for a Leisurely Sunday afternoon lunch on the beach usually consisting of freshly caught fish and a fresh breeze, A Local Town square, Beautiful beaches, not too much to do but a great way of experiencing a much quieter and relaxed Mexican costal town vibe while a relaxing stroll ends off an enchanting visit.
Play Del Carmen - This was a and is a very relaxed “Hippie” vibe type destination Port Town that has exploded in popularity and Development, Everything Cancun has to offer, Playa del Carmen does too, and with the Famous 5th Avenue everything you need is on one street, a very very long street but during the day and night bustling street sellers, High end restaurants, Smaller bars, Roof top clubs, beach clubs, Coffee shops, Pastry shops, there is literally everything you could want, this is a great day out.
Tulum - On Entering Tulum you will be met by a Bohemian feel that rings true to many visitors. with a great mix of local and international residents it has a very strong sense of community.Tulum’s Ruin are Spectacular while so much historical information can be found and it does impress the stunning surroundings that make up Tulum has it over looking the Aqua Blue waters and a beach that has been voted one of the best in the WorldThe Road South is a Spiritual one for many with Long stretches, not only in kilometers but in the imagination of those who seek to know it, There are more Places of interest the Further South you head - Bacalar, Sian Ka’an, Mahahual
